Why does our lovely state think that we do not need federal funds for education? Therefore, creating a huge crunch on education. There is major talk about letting teachers go. Then today in the DMN they are saying that our crappy law makers are trying to just decrease our salaries. Really?? How much less can I make for my job? How about we cut the TAKS test or soon to be STARS test. The annual cost to the state is into the millions! Yes, all of that money goes to a test making company and they are laughing all the way to the bank, while teachers are worried about having a job. The state would also like to take the cap off of class numbers. Maybe we should let our law makers sit in a class with more then 22 kindergartners for the day while the teacher gets to enjoy a day off. Wait I am sure the children would have that lawmaker crying and heading for the hills within 10 minutes. If you think Kindergarten is scary, then get more then 25 pre-teens in a small room and see how well it smells and the major drama of this age group.
It isn't just our state but it is local districts too! I am not specifically talking about my current district but did you know that most districts in the state a huge number of administrators. In the DMN it said something like 35% of districts were administrators. Wow! Because everyone knows that the further away from actually working with kids, the more money you can make. So why can't we cut some fat from the top and stop testing and focus on what is important? The students! Does anyone remember that students are our business?
